Electric Skies Over False Bay

Two colossal bolts of lightning tear through a bruised purple sky and strike the water simultaneously over False Bay, their reflections doubling the spectacle on the calm surface below. To the left, a single fork lands offshore in eerie isolation; to the right, a tangled cluster of forked lightning erupts in a blinding flash, momentarily turning night into day over the bay. The scattered lights of the coastal town glow calmly in the distance, utterly unaware of the violence unfolding just beyond the shoreline.

Captured during a rare and dramatic electrical storm rolling in off False Bay, this long-exposure image required patience, precision timing, and more than a little luck — freezing a fraction of a second that most people only ever glimpse from the corner of their eye.
